Deathly Hallows: the end of a saga

Welcome to The Pensieve's guide to Book 7: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This website is devoted solely to exploration of the 7th and final Harry Potter book. Relive the magic: watch JK Rowling reading the 1st Chapter of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows on July 21st 2007 - part 1 and part 2.

“I belong to the Harry Potter generation. Before the fame, the movies and the merchandise, came us, reading the books before bedtime.”
- Vhari Leishman, Cub Reporter for HBP, quoted on Bloomsbury.com

"I always knew that Harry's story would end with the seventh book, but saying goodbye has been just as hard as I always knew it would be. I've never felt such a mixture of extreme emotions in my life, never dreamed I could feel simultaneously heartbroken and euphoric ... but one thing has stopped me collapsing in a puddle of misery on the floor. While each of the previous Potter books has strong claims on my affections, 'Deathly Hallows' is my favourite, and that is the most wonderful way to finish the series."
- JK Rowling

It has been exactly 10 years since the 1st Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, was published (2001) and 17 years since Harry strolled into JK Rowling's head while she was on a train travelling accross the English country-side. The Harry Potter books (and the films and web communities they have inspired) have formed a large chunk of many Harry Potter fans' lives. Most fans approach the final chapter of the saga with mixed emotions: trepidation, uncertainty, excitement and sadness. Many fans have spent years of their lives in the company of the Harry Potter books and have devoted many hours escaping into Harry's world. But as we approach the end of the Harry Potter series, we should not be mourning but celebrating the world that JK Rowling has created.

This website is here to provide you with stimulus for theories and discussion about the next book. It's purpose is to whet your appetite for the 7th book and to keep you inspired after its release. If will also hopefully provide closure for you on the events that come to pass in Book 7. The ultimate aim of this site, however, is to provide a space for you to reflect on not only the 7th book, but also on the Harry Potter series as a whole and what they have meant to you. We encourage you to send us your memories, comments and reflections on your Harry Potter experience - some will be published on this site. The Pensieve is a place where memories are stored - come and deposit yours.

JK Rowling will not write an 8th Harry Potter book but she will write a "Harry Potter Encyclopedia", which explains the backstories, unanswered questions and character details, though she's not sure she can cover everything:

“I’m dealing with a level of obsession in some of my fans that will not rest until they know the middle names of Harry’s great-great-grandparents. But I love it,” Jo said. “I’m all for that.”
